Coloured postcard showing the tapestry produced through the LBBD Arts Services ?Stitch in Time? project which took place in March-May 2002. The project was initiated as part of the kick stArt Arts Month 2002. 140 local people worked with textile artist Linda Merriman to produce the piece, which now hangs on permanent display at Eastbury Manor House, Barking.

Inscription Printed On back: A Stitch in Time Throughout March, April and May 2002, over 140 people worked with textile artist Linda Merriman to produce this modern day wall hanging for the Borough, the piece is on permanent display at Eastbury Manor House. Measuring 3.3m high by 3m wide, the textile displays a range of techniques including batik, rag rugging, knitting, metal work, appliqué and “black work” to illustrate different aspects of the Borough, past and present in the form of a ?map? with featured landmarks and event in their respective locations in the borough. Among its features are the Millennium Centre, Ford Motor Company, historic windmills, Ripple Road Library, which was destroyed by fire in the 1960’s Barking Abbey and the Becontree Estate as well as Self-portraits and depictions of the hobbies and interests of the children who took part. A stitch in Time was a London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Arts Service project, initiated As part of the kick start Arts Month in 2002.
