Description

Francis Fanshawe, daughter of the Rev. William Clerke, Vicar of Thame and his wife Joan Burnham, of Crendon. In 1718 she married Thomas Fanshawe of Parsloes (See no.1), and together they had five children: Alice (b & d 1719); Frances (1720-1795); Thomas (1722-1797); Maria (1724-1777); John (b & d 1725). She died in 1725, during the birth of her son John.

Physical description

An oval miniature showing the bust of a woman turned to her right, but looking at the artist. She is wearing a light coloured dress with a floral posy at the centre of her chest. Her fringe is swept high on her head, and the rest of her hair is fixed at the back of her head and trails down her back. She wears no jewellery. Set on a predominantly plain background but the area on her right hand side shows a small landscape view.
