Description
Invitation issued to attend a special dinner to mark the opening of the Beacon Tree Public House, Green Lane, Dagenham, on Sunday 24th June ay 4:30pm. This formally was the Matapan P.H. The Matapan was built in 1948 when H.D. Widdicombe and A.L. Davies were granted a licence ?in respect of premies to be erected at Becontree Heath between Winifred Road and Tenterden Road?. It was rebuilt in 1962. The original name ?Matapan? commemorates the Battle of Cape Matapan (26th March 1941). In 2007 the pub changed management and was given a new name and had a new dining hall added to the building. Local residents were asked to offer suggestions for a new name, and the Beacon Tree was selected, as homage to Beacontree Heath.

Hi All
Are there any photographs of the Matapan when it was a Prefab in the car park?
