Description

Printed ?Citizen? newspaper provided free to all homes in the London Borough of Barking (then incorporating Barking and Dagenham). Dated July 1975, No. 11. The front page contains an article on the newly developed Barking Abbey Grounds. REcently opened by the Mayor, Cllr. Mrs Godfrey, old shops and factories were pulled down to provide excellent views of the Church and Curfew Tower. Mrs Godfrey was elected as Mayor for the year 1974-5. Her daughter, Hilda Bastable was her Mayoress for this term. Page 4 shows a picture, with related article, showing Cllr. Mrs Godfrey presenting an illuminated address to the Right Reverand William Frank Percival Chadwick M.A., Bishop of Barking. The central pages of the newspaper contain a preview of that years Town Show. The back page contains an article on Barking through the ages and shows a coloured picture of Mayor Mrs Godrey and Mayoress Mrs Bastable planting a tree.
