World War II Royal Air Force Uniform
after 1939 – before 1952
Embroidered badge - 3 chevrons denoting 'Sergeant'. Part of a RAF unform. Worn by Bertram Charles Roy Thomas (1925-2014) who was an NCO Sergeant air gunner from 1943. He remained in the reserve forces after the war and into the 1950s. Roy was a keen motor cyclist and wore his service great coat and air suit on his motor bike for warmth and safety, which have since been lost, along with his uniform side cap.
Black twill cotton 'V' shaped fabric with three strips of woven fabric attached. The strips are a course fabric, blue ground with yellow chevrons.
