Report for the eleventh annual council meeting held on Wednesday 15th May 1974. It was during this meeting that Mrs Godfrey was formally appointed as Mayor for Barking. The outgoing Mayor was Cllr S. G. Cole, J.P. and the outgoing Deputy Mayor was Cllr. J. L. Jones, J.P. From a collection of items documenting Mrs Catherine Sarah Maud Godfrey's time as Mayor elect for London Borough of Barking for the year 1974-5. Her daughter, Hilda Bastable was her Mayoress for this term.

Physical description

24 pages of A4 paper bound in brown card covers, with a dark brown material spine. The cover bares the coat-of-arms of the Borough of Barking. Printed throughout in black ink on both sides of the paper. Page1 - Seating plan for the Town Hall council chamber. Page 3 (i) - Greeting from Town Clerk, Mr Watson Barker, and Agenda. Page 4 (ii) - Continuation of agenda. Page 5 (iii) - Town Clerk's Report: Notes of Procedure and Motions: Election of the Mayor and election of four Alderman. Page 6 (iv) - Appointment of Deputy Mayor, appointment of Leader, results of election of councils, appointment of Mayor's Chaplain, votes of thanks to the retiring Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Page 7 (v) - To confirm as correct the minutes of the meeting held on the 30th April 1974, apologies of absence, selection of Sub-committee, appointment of Chairman and Vice-chairman, motions and questions, Mayor's purse and Deputy Mayor's Purse, common seal. Page 8-14 (vi-xii) - Agenda item 5; Election of Councillors held on 2nd May 1974. Page 15 (929) - Selection Sub-Committee, Chair, Meeting of the Council, appointment and membership committees. Page 16 (930) - Continuation of selection Sub-Committee; Halls and catering, Libraries, Establishment, Parks, cleansing, highways and planning. Page 17 (931) - Continuation of Selection Sub-committee; Housing, environmental health, building works, social services, general purpose, education, finance, Town Show, Barking Carnival, road safety council, Co-opted members. Pages 18-22 (932-936) - Appointment of representatives on miscellaneous bodies. Page 22 (936) - North East Polytechnic, Appointment of Trustees of local charities. Page 23 (937) - Appointment of Trustees of local charities continued.
