Bound and printed book comprising 352 pages of poems, songs and ballads by some of Britain's greatest authors, including William Shakespeare, Robert Burns, Lord Byron and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The book was used by George F. Walden (b. 16.08.1919) at Barking Abbey School c.1931. George Walden was transferred to Barking Abbey School from East Ham Technical College upon moving to Barking. A second name (S. Walker, IIA boys) is written inside the front cover as books were passed down each year.

Physical description

Small hard backed book printed throughout in typescript. The title pages have a green floral border and contain a picture of Robert Burns. There are 16 pages of indexes, title pages and notes at the front. The book has original green cloth covers, but has been covered in brown parcel paper, possibly done by George Walden. There are handwritten annotations in pencil on the front page of the indices, and to Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "The Ancient Mariner", on pages 202 - 221.
