This collection comprises writings and notes compiled by John G. O'Leary, as preparation for his publications on the history of Dagenham (1929-1965)

History

John G. O'Leary was Librarian for the Borough of Dagenham from October 1929 until his retirement in March 1965. He used his scholarship and strength of character to build an excellent and long-lasting foundation for the library service particularly at the formative time of Dagenham Urban District Council, which had replaced Dagenham Parish Council in 1926.
